Robert Gray

Assistant Pastor

Reverend Robert L. Gray is a remarkable human being who has dedicated his life to helping others find their way. Born and raised in Malden, Massachusetts, he has always had a heart for service and a passion for ministry. He received his bachelor's degree from Northeastern University in 1975 before embarking on a journey of faith that would take him to the A.M.E. Ministerial Training Institute in Springfield, Massachusetts, where he completed the full five-year program.

Rev. Gray is a man of many talents, with a deep love for writing and a gift for inspiring others. He was awarded a three-year fellowship to Harvard Divinity School in 1997 as a L.U.C.E. Fellow, where he continued to hone his craft and explore the depths of his faith. He later earned a Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing degree from National University in San Diego, California in January 2008, further expanding his knowledge and expertise.

Rev. Gray has served as the assistant pastor at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Boston, Massachusetts for many years, working alongside chief pastor and shepherd, Rev. Dr. Ray Hammond. He retired from the Massachusetts Probation Service in November 2004 after 27 years of dedicated service, where he made a real difference in the lives of countless young people.

Rev. Gray's contributions to the world of sports chaplaincy are nothing short of remarkable. He has served as chaplain for the NBA Boston Celtics basketball team since 2000 and as assistant chaplain for the Boston Red Sox Major League baseball team from 1996 to 2007, and the New England Patriots football team in the National Football League from 1996 to 2006. Rev. Gray has been there for his teams through the highs and the lows, sharing in their victories and their defeats and providing a steady hand and a warm heart along the way.

Rev. Gray is also a gifted writer, with several published works to his name. His young adult novel, The Wings of Courage, is a true gem, filled with heart and hope. His short stories and articles are equally inspiring, showcasing his talent and his deep understanding of the human experience. His current book, Decide to Become Awesome, is a must-read for anyone looking to live their best life.

In addition to his ministry and writing work, Rev. Gray is the founder of FUTURE YOU WANT NOW, a life strategy and motivational speaking workshop and life coaching organization. Through counseling at the church, courthouse, and pro sports, he has touched the lives of thousands of people, helping them find their way and live their best lives.

Rev. Gray is a warm and loving man, with a heart full of compassion and a spirit full of grace. He is married to the lovely and talented Rev. Sabrina B. Gray, whom he wed in 2001, and together they have created a beautiful blended family of eight children and currently have eight grandchildren, with another on the way. Rev. Gray's NBA Boston Celtics Chaplaincy was featured on the front page and full third-page coverage of the Boston Herald daily newspaper and online website on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, and it's easy to see why he is so beloved by so many.
