During this challenging time we really want to be obedient shepherds and help our Bethel community as much as we can.

We've put together a list of community resources for free hot meals, things to do with your kids at home, and a video message from Pastor Ray in regards to services moving forward.

COVID19

sERVICES page

Just because we cannot meet in person, does not mean

that Church services, classes, and prayer have to stop. No, the Bible tells us that we ( the people ) are the Church, and not the Bldg.

So with the help of technology

we have completely transitioned worship, Word, classes, prayer and fellowship to

online platforms until

further notice.

Dr. Kevin Simon

This has been a challenging season of sickness and death from a pandemic, sorrow and heartache from street violence, and anger and grief over police violence. Join us on Tuesday evening, June 2 at 7:30 pm for a forum and discussion session. We’re blessed to have three mental health professionals, who are also members of the Bethel Family—Drs. Olivia Moorhead Slaughter, Martin Pierre, and Kevin Simon (see photos above).

They’ll be leading us in a discussion of the ways stress and violence traumatize us, how to help our children and youth understand what’s happening, and how to remain strong and resilient ourselves in the face of pandemics and police violence. Feel free to invite friends, neighbors, family, and colleagues to join us for what promises to be an enlightening and healing time. You have to register to participate.

P.S. If you’d like to understand better exactly what happened in Minneapolis, MN (the site of George Foley’s murder) go to https://www.facebook.com/rockofallen/videos/2666966343409526/. You’ll hear a recording of a wonderful Town Hall sponsored by St. Peter AME Church in Minneapolis and moderated by our own Sis. Carole Copeland Thomas. I learned, from a rich diversity of voices, so much about the many things that led up to last week’s tragedy. Check it out.

update

Lord willing, we will  have a new version of the Bethel Update coming to you in the next 1-2 weeks. Keep an eye out for it.

This past Wednesday night in Bible Study we continued to wrestle with the issue of Imposter Syndrome and the role it might have played in the story of King Saul in 1st Samuel. We also had a rich discussion of the events surrounding the murder of George Foley at the hands of Minneapolis police (See Tue, June 2 forum below. As always you can go to our Bible Study archives to access that study as well as other past Zoom studies. Let someone know that there’s a blessing here for them.

We’re getting ready for the virtual New England Annual Conference on Thu-Fri, June 11-12. Join us for these 2 days of virtual worship and the sharing of Bethel’s Annual Report to our Bishop and Conference. The schedule for the conference will be sent out on the listserve and posted on our website (www.bethelame.org).

This week we were blessed to feed 88 elders and 12 youth in our Community Feeding Ministry. As always, our congregational ministry, our community outreach, and our advocacy for justice continue because your support and your faithful giving continue. Please continue that giving (Donate), however small or large, because it really makes a difference. Thank you and God bless you.
