ABOUT US

Pastors Ray & Gloria Hammond founded Bethel in 1988. Over the past 30 years, Bethel has influenced the greater Boston community and even the world. Our purpose as believers is to fulfill Christ's commission to go into all the world and let people know that God loves us all and has a marvelous plan for our lives. ARE YOU A VISITOR?

We are so excited to have you join our church family for one of our worship experiences!

See below to understand how it all works.

ABOUT US

Over four hundred people call Bethel AME Church their home and our Bethel family spans a range of ages and backgrounds. Bethel AME is nestled in a quiet corner of the Jamaica Plain Community of Greater Boston with a Campus that consists of five buildings and a spacious parking lot.

You'll see people dressed in all styles—from jeans and shorts in the summer to suits in the winter. We offer two identical worship services beginning at 8AM & 11AM with Church School taking place between the two services at 9:45AM.

WHAT TO EXPECT

When you arrive on campus, please make your way to either our parking lot, located at the Youth Center at 84 Wachusett Street or any available street parking on Wachusett Street or Walk Hill Street.

In an effort to be kind to our neighbors we ask that you make yourself aware of all driveways, street signs and no parking areas.

As you enter the Main Sanctuary on the corner of Walk Hill Street and Wachusett Street, our Bethel Greeters Ministry will greet you with a bulletin and if needed, direct you to a seat. Please note: If you arrive late, Greeters will advise you when to enter.

Our services typically begin with a time of prayer and worship, led by our worship team followed by a time of fellowship, more worship and a sermon usually delivered by our Pastor.

Lastly, our Pastor then leads us in a time of reflective prayer, a celebration of generosity through giving and a final benediction that will cover us as we go out to share God’s love with the world.

CHILDREN & YOUTH

All children are welcome to attend worship services, but we also offer childcare through our Nursery Ministry and engaging ministries for children and youth. These ministries meet during our 8AM Worship Service ONLY.

Nursery (Infants – Toddlers) ~ Meets every 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Sunday!

Children (3 years old – 5th Grade) ~ Meets every 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Sunday!

Middle School (6th – 8th) & High School (9th – 12th) ~ Meets every 2nd & 4th Sunday!

If you require the nursery, please proceed straight to the Youth Center then join us for Worship in the main Sanctuary.  All other children will be released to their ministry groups from the main sanctuary during the worship service. If you have any questions our Bethel Greeters will happily assist you.
